Episode 1

Jo Jo Brown

Jo Jo Brown can be considered a walking, breathing miracle. On September 27, 2021 nearly a year to the date of her sentencing–Jo Jo and her husband were shot in their Slingshot recreational vehicle while parked in a family member’s driveway in Cleveland Ohio.

Jo Jo sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body, leaving her in critical condition. Tragically, the same attack proved fatal to her husband

Jo Jo awoke in the hospital unaware of her husband’s condition, only to learn from family members that the love of her life had not survived. Doctors told her she would likely never walk, talk, or see again.

Despite the heartbreak, Jo Jo channeled her pain into progress and focused on her recovery. Less than a month after the shooting, she defied expectations by walking out of the hospital on her own. One bullet, three fragments and a plate remain in her head and she has lost her peripheral vision.

On September 15, 2022, Jo Jo was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for her involvement in her husband’s 1.D. and credit card fraud enterprise. Although she was initially not expected to do time, the government insisted someone be held accountable following her husband’s death. Jo Jo plead guilty to one count of aggravated identity theft.

She spent the next two months preparing for surrender–boarding up her home, closing her boutique, shutting down her printing company, and arranging custody for her minor children. On November 30, 2022, still carrying the pain of losing her husband, Jo Jo surrendered to Alderson Federal Prison Camp
